Is anyone else’s EcoCloth seats losing their color on the outside bolsters?

Kinja'd!!!

I just took my mom’s Fusion to the grocery store and noticed the driver seat bolster is looking rather poor for a car with only 25,000 miles.

This material feels really nice but I’m starting to question its durability. Same with the whole car to be quite honest...

“EcoCloth?” Oh...

2010 Fusion Hybrid is Ford’s latest vehicle to be outfitted with soy-based foam seat cushions, covered in recycled fabric. A car’s environmental impact can be measured by more than mileage.

It’s a neat idea and concept, but apparently recycled cloth doesn’t like holding dye.

It’s common. I see it every day. GM Trucks are another that are showing this type of wear.

I don’t remember this ever being an issue in the past. I wonder what the hell changed that’s causing it now.

I’ve noticed it on a lot of cars lately that have bolstering on the sides.

Just the way people get in and out, especially in like jeans causes everything to wear

MB-Tex eats your EcoCloth for dinner. My seats are from 1983, all good.

I mean it’s made from recycled things so it’s “eco” and it’s just a lameo marketing name.

Same as anything: inferior materials with pretentious names.

The mouse fur velour in the old 94 Safari looked better after 21 years.

Fortunately for Ford, F-150 buyers mostly go for leather, but I really hope they’ve solved that whole “getting paint to permanently stick to aluminum” thing.

Recycling anything results in derivative products with a shorter life span. There’s no getting around that...

combo of the material and how the owner gets in and out. It doesn’t happen to all of them, owner of this car flops on entry into the seat directly on that bolster. It’s an unconscious thing but makes for faster wear...especially with a material that doesn’t wear well as in this case. Also, it’s indication the foam is getting soft on that bolster which enhances the problem. Look at the wear pattern here, it’s clear the bolster is taking the drivers weight directly and often. If I were this driver I’d move the seat all the way back on exit so I didn’t do this upon re-entry. If it has power seats they may be able to be programmed to do so.

I hate these new materials. They look nice and modern but are hard to clean, don’t repair well and in some cases don’t wear well. I’d like to see them go back to a velour style cloth like Honda has started doing.

My 45,000 mile Fusion leather seats still looks like brand new(forgive grainy pic).

Makes me glad I upgraded to leather.
